Tofu Truth
Posted on March 5th, 2009 2 commentsSo, you have allergies to dairy or maybe you are a vegetarian. You may want to think twice about reaching for that soy milk or eating your favourite tofu dish.
Soy and related products are marketed as a “health food”. In reality, soy is probably one of the most unhealthy products that you can consume. I know, we have all heard that the majority of Asian cultures have used this product for many years and look how healthy they are. It is true that many of these people have been consuming soy for a long time. With that in mind, it is essential to understand how soy was traditionally used.
Soy was used in crop rotation to revitalize the soil. The only portion that that was consumed was the root. The beans were basically discarded and the root was only eaten once it had been fermented. This releases enzymes that actually make it digestible. Let’s think about that for a moment. Soy was not consumed unless it was fermented. The only form of fermented soy you will find in your local supermarket would be in the form of Soy sauce. All the rest is a toxic, chemically manipulated, genetically modified product that really has little to no nutritional value as it is quite indigestible.
Endocrine disrupting chemicals are commonly found in the water and food supply. Soy products also contribute to this problem. Soy has estrogen like properties that can severely disrupt the hormonal systems. What is the significance of that? Well, if you are a male you don’t want to expose yourself to any additional chemicals that raise your estrogen levels. As a female, this type of situation can lead to early periods and other hormonal changes or imbalances. This is consistent with the same type of estrogen mimicking chemicals found in plastics. The bottom line is that they can be related to cancer and other disese causing agents. There is nothing healthy about that.
Let’s recap- Soy consumption
-Only used when fermented in the traditional Asian diet
-Can not be digested well (low protein quality)
-Manipulated with harsh toxic chemicals and genetically modified
-Alters hormone levels in both men and women-this can lead to diseases.
