Stewart Cink puts an end to Tom Watson’s Storybook Finish
Posted on July 19th, 2009 No commentsSteward Cink managed to take a share of the lead with Tom Wastson and promptly dispatched of him in a playoff to win the 2009 British Open Championship. Watson played fantastic all tournament but seemed to run out of gas as Cink kicked into another gear to win by 4 shots during a six hole playoff.
Watson had his chance to win at 18 when he missed a fairly routine putt. Cink made a 12 footer on the final hole to pull even and force a playoff. After that, it was all down hill for Waston. He was unable to continue his stellar play.
Despite his collapse, my hats off to Tom Watson for an unbelievable tournament and for him showing us some of the Open Championship magic he has displayed in the past. Congratulations are in order for Stewart Cink, but Tom Watson stole the show! What a finish!
